Avago, Broadcom, Foxconn — Who Owns Who?

Avago, Broadcom, Foxconn — Who Owns Who?

We understand that it can be confusing when sourcing compatible solutions for Avago, Broadcom and Foxconn products.

You may have purchased products from one of these three manufacturers, only to find the same part number listed as a different manufacturer when searching for replacements. For example, an Avago part that is now listed as a Broadcom part.

To help you with this, here is a brief timeline of three of the biggest names in the industry.

In 2015, Avago Technologies Ltd. announced that it would buy Broadcom Corporation, acquiring its optical transceiver assets. A merger of these two companies resulted in Broadcom Ltd., shortly after Avago had sold the optical transceiver assets in 2016 to contract manufacturing giant Foxconn.

However, the newly formed Broadcom Ltd went on to re-acquire these optical transceiver assets from Foxconn in 2019.

Subsequently, from 2015 to 2019, the same OEM parts were manufactured under different names as assets were sold and re-acquired, resulting in some confusion for our customers.

A timeline of Avago, Broadcom and Foxconn

Avago Broadcom Foxconn — Who Owns Who

At present, very few suppliers show Foxconn as a brand.

Broadcom Corporation currently operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of the merged company Broadcom Ltd. As the Broadcom name has persisted, Broadcom products are still sold as Broadcom.

Despite the Avago name dissipating following the merger, the OEM Avago is still commonly used, and researched by consumers.

At ATGBICS, we use the brand ‘Avago Broadcom’ to denote all parts that were originally branded as either Avago, Broadcom or Foxconn, to ensure that sourcing compatible solutions is as easy as possible for our customers.

We supply a broad range of Avago Broadcom compatible transceivers, including legacy 1X9 technology that has been discontinued by the original manufacturers.

All of our Avago Broadcom products are proudly backed by our compatibility guarantee, as well as a lifetime replacement warranty. Evaluation units are always available on request, please contact us to find out more.
