What is the difference between QSFP 40G SR4 and CSR4?

Differences

  • A 40GBase SR transceiver is optimised for short reach transmission, typically up to 100m on OM3 and 150m on OM4.
  • A 40GBase CSR transceiver is optimised for extended reach transmission, typically up to 300m on OM3 and 400m on OM4.
  • A 40GBase SR4 transceiver can work with OM2 cables in some cases.

Similarities

  • The number '4' refers to the type of data transmission. Both SR4 & CSR4 use a ribbon fibre with four 10Gbps parallel strands.
  • 40GBase CSR4 and 40GBase SR4 are both standards for 40 Gigabit Ethernet over fibre optic cables.
  • Both interface with MPO-12 Connectors.
  • Both are compatible with OM3 and OM4 multimode fibre (MMF).
